Well the answer is a big YES, instantly too. Luckily you can now purchase small ozone makers for home drinking water purification. This unit only uses around 15w of power, only runs for the 5 or 10 minutes we set it to ozone our drinking water.
Firstly we fill a 15l plastic water container with rainwater from our house tank, drop the air stone on the end of a clear hose which comes with the unit, into the water. Press the button once for a 5 minute period, and the machine starts generating ozone, bubbling through the water.
After 5 minutes the unit switches off. Now we can pour the ozoned water into our water filter tank. Since using the ozonizer, our water filter has stayed perfectly bug free.
The ozone is natural and breaks down into oxygen over 30 minutes.
Ozone kills all fungus, viruses and bacteria in the water instantly.

Can I drink ozonized water to kill bugs in me?
Yes, but you must drink the water within 5 minutes of being treated before the ozone breaks down. Tastes not bad at all, only a slight odour, and you always feel like you have more energy after drinking the treated water.
Great as a mouth wash, foot wash, wound wash etc, as it kills bacteria instantly.
How much water can the ozonizer treat?
This model the model pictured above - 600 treats 15l or 5g of water every 5 minutes of use. You can set the unit to run 5, 10 up to 30 minutes. I have even used it in my swimming pool, in 30 minutes had killed all the algae, the water had a milky look, and felt amazingly soft. However, there are proper machines for swimming pools, as this unit is really for in the home use.
What caused me to go looking for water treatment, was that my family was always sick, and we were getting bloated from eating and drinking. We felt sick at meal times. Constantly having upset stomachs. We found out we had blastocystis and giardia in our rainwater tank. There is no other way to kill those bugs, not even boiling and super fine filtering stops blastocystis. Yes, these bugs are often in town water supplies too. Chlorine does not kill them!
As soon as we started using the ozoned water, the bloating went, our appetites returned, and we had lots more energy all day.
